Lawmakers’ Meeting on Zero Extreme Poverty

A meeting with the lawmakers (Member of the Parliament) was organised by EEP/Shiree project in cooperation with Unnayan Shamannay on 12 October 2015.

The objective of the meeting was to share with the honourable parliamentarians’ coming from key parliamentary standing committees – the challenges ahead regarding achieving zero extreme poverty in the context of the upcoming 7th Five Year Plan and also to communicate the need for policy in eradicating extreme poverty from Bangladesh.

The meeting with the lawmakers was very engaging which brought out some important suggestions/comments. They suggested to contextualize the definition of poverty and extreme poverty and also underscored on the rapid development of Bangladesh.

Eminent Members of the Parliament were present at the meeting including A K M Jahangir Hosain, Md. Abdul Wadud Dara, Md. Shawkat Chowdhury, Advocate Navana Aktar, Lutfa Taher, Abdur Rouf, Rahima Akhtar, Dr. Md. Rustom Ali Farazi, and Amsadul Kibria Keya Chowdhury.

Dr. S M Zulfiqar Ali, Head of Research and Advocacy of EEP/Shiree presented a paper on extreme poverty while Khondoker Ibrahim Khaled from Unnayan Shamunnoy moderated the session.
