After the death of her husband, Razia Khatun looked after her 4 children and her mother-in-law with her miniscule income as a housemaid. Now, with the help of Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK), she has started her own business and is slowly improving her life. DSK is working with slum dwellers like Razia Khatun, changing  their living standards by providing them with  improved health, water and sanitation  facilities and income generating opportunities.

 

With the Scale Fund, Practical Action-Bangladesh is assisting extreme poor households to lift themselves out of poverty by transferring income generating assets, providing them with the necessary technology and connecting them with markets. Nur Banu from East Belka of Sundarganj Sub-district in Gaibandha speaks her experience.

 

After losing everything to devastating cyclones, Banomali lost his hopes of rebuilding his home and restarting his teashop again. His uncertainty is compounded with his inability to perform physical labour at his old age. With the Scale Fund, Save the Children UK is assisting extreme poor households to lift themselves out of poverty by providing diversified income opportunities through asset transfer, skills training, business counselling and market linkage, promoting disaster risk reduction and climate change resilient livelihoods and improving access to improved access to social entitlements. After receiving assistance from Save the Children, Banomali has reopened his teashop. With the Innovation fund, Shushilan assisting extreme poor households to lift themselves out of poverty through combating the impact of climate change on the traditional livelihoods through. The project aims to increase resources and sustain household incomes through innovative approaches including growing vegetable on floating garden and wetland management. Nobizan  of the Mirjanogor Village in Jessor Districts speaks her experience working with Shushilan.  

With the Scale Fund, Uttaran is assisting the landless household to gain access to the government Khas land and water bodies by helping extreme poor households to apply for the rights to Khas land, creating awareness on the laws and procedures relating to khas land and ensuring access of the poor to the respective government authorities. Providing income generating asset and skills are also an important part of the project.
