Key Aspects
- The aim of the project is to address monga – a seasonally period of food insecurity brought on by low levels of employment opportunities;
- The main components of the project is asset transfer, employment generation resulting in improved income and nutritional status;
- Each BHH is given a cow or heifer that is provided estrous synchronization and artificial insemination twice over the life cycle of the project, facilitating manipulating(controlled) reproduction and timely milk production;
- Each BHH is provided training on cattle rearing and animal husbandry;
- The project provides a cash stipend of BDT 750 for each BHH in addition to a BDT 400 per month cattle feed support for first three months and a onetime transfer for cattle housing support of BDT 500;
- All relevant cattle health supports (vaccination, deworming and treatment) through Local Livestock Workers (LLW) including skill development of Local Livestock Workers (LLW);
- Skill development of AI Technicians through practical AI performing in guidance from Veterinarians and advanced training by experts;
- BHH are also provided training on homestead agricultural techniques on homestead vegetables, cassava, sweet potato and Napier & Jumboo grass production also provided the necessary agricultural inputs to get these activities started;
- Project facilitates ‘learning-days’ for non-poor of the community in the hope they will adopt Artificial Insemination & Estrus Synchronisation technology at-cost;
- Supplemental IGA for depending on the BHH’s existing skill and choice are provide to each BHH worth BDT 6200;
- The model was initially planned for 2 years for graduation during review of Year 2 it is extended for another year, thus total 3 Years are planned for the graduation of participants;
