Key Aspects

  • Drop in Centres provide a point of entry for street children to be reached with a range of regular services and assistance, and a community focal point through which advocacy campaigns can be delivered;
  • Income generating opportunities and negotiating capacity is increased through skills-transfer training, internships and vocational training, designed to prioritise achievement of core-competencies, and respond to learning capacity and training needs of participants;
  • Participants can access the innovative, flexible savings product that provides them with a child-friendly, secure and mobile form of asset generation;
  • An outreach campaign for the implementation of Child Safeguarding Standards in workplaces and monitored through follow-up activities;
  • Advocacy for improved access to basic services targets the local community and government, through mass campaigns, and direct linkages between participants and duty-bearers;
  • Graduation period: 18 months, after which beneficiaries will have the ability to earn an increased amount of income that sustains an improved livelihood; enhanced capacity to gain improved employment, or start new business; strong asset base support to start new enterprises and resist life-cycle shocks; marginalisation reduced as able to access basic services available in the community;

Outputs

  • Output 1: Street Children are supported to have safer employments and increased income generating capacity (IGC);
  • Output 2: Street children are supported in developing responsible financial behaviour through sustainable asset generation;
  • Output 3: Street children under current employment are supported in accessing basic services in the community and safer workplaces that enforce child safeguarding standard.
