Key Aspects
- Targets Bangladesh’s growing elderly population. Specifically extreme poor elderly of transient char islands who experience a decrease in economic and social security when economically active relatives migrate. (Migration is an observed coping strategy of younger economically active family members in dealing with the challenging char environment).
- Works with elderly extreme poor to improve access to sustainable livelihoods through capacity building, facilitated IGA selection and development
- Immediate needs and IGA development supported by disbursement of unconditional cash transfers
- Cash transfers, skills training, basic healthcare access and coordination delivered through community-led ‘community support centres’ (CSCs)
Output
- Output 1: Targeted households are provided with strong and sustainable livelihood outcomes
- Output 2: Formation and functioning of 40 Community Support Centres (CSC) are facilitated
- Output 3: Targeted households are provided awareness and training on DRR
- Output 4: GO, NGO and private service providers are sensitized and engaged on ageing issues
