All Party Parliamentary Group Appg Extreme Poverty

On June 17 2010, the honourable speaker of the Parliament of People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Advocate Md. Abdul Hamid approved the formation of All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Extreme Poverty consisting of 4 members Chair Panel, One Chairperson along with 18 members of the Parliament.

In the daylong conference on extreme poverty on October 18, 2009 at the Bangababdhu Conference Centre in Dhaka, various ministers and members of the parliaments along with various policy makers of the government, representatives from poor population and members of civil societies declared their commitments to strengthen the effort to eliminate extreme poverty in Bangladesh. In this conference, Honourable speaker made the preliminary announced of forming an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Extreme Poverty.

shiree has been advocating for the formation and announcement of the APPG from its inception and initiated numerous activities to make it a reality. Working with the People’s Empowerment Trust (PET), shiree provided support to organize orientation sessions on extreme poverty for 150 members of Parliament. The First orientation was organized on 8 December 2009 to enhance the understanding and knowledge of the members of Parliament on extreme poverty. Since then, 150 members of the parliament received orientation on the issues relating to extreme poverty in 5 sessions.
